Penrose Apple Crochet Hat Pattern Instructions

When my husband walked through the door with four 5-gallon buckets of apples, I knew my kitchen was about to turn into a pie-and-preserves factory. I’ll be baking for days! But before I tie on my apron, I couldn’t resist whipping up a few more of these adorable apple hats.

Every fall, our little town celebrates Apple Day—the kind of small-town festival you see in movies, complete with carnival games, pie contests, homemade crafts, and even a festival Queen. This year, just for fun, I’ll be bringing an armful of crocheted apple hats to hand out to the kids running around with caramel apples and cotton candy. I can’t wait to see those big smiles under their new hats. 🍎

And you can join the fun, too! Imagine creating a whole basket of apple hats for your family—perfect for cozy fall walks, a trip to the orchard, or even a silly family photo shoot in matching apple beanies. These hats are fast to make, fun to wear, and guaranteed to spark some sweet memories.

  1. Love this hat! Do you have a pattern for it in adult size by any chance? Thanks so much!

    1. Hi Lisa,
I don’t have this in adult size, however, once you’ve completed the stem section, you can move on to any of my top-down hats that do have adult sizes and complete the hat from there. A good one to use would be the Brave Beanie as it has ridges, similar to what a pumpkin might have. But, if you leave them out, they’ll look almost exactly like this child’s version.
You can find that hat here: https://madewithatwist.com/one-hour-crochet-beanie/
