Pattern Notes

• Beg CH2 always counts as a DC st.
• Beg CH1 does not count as a st.
• For this pattern, the FPDC will be worked in the DC from 2 rounds below (long front post double crochet).

Special Stitches

ALPINE STITCH

The Alpine Stitch is a pattern of stitches that contains alternating rows of repeating DC and FPDC in the st 2 rows below with rows of single crochet.

The rows that include FPDC are offset which creates a highly textured, dense fabric that is particularly warm for winter months.

Typically worked flat, turning each row, when working in the round, it is also a best practice to turn between rounds in order to keep the stitches aligned.

DC/FPDC2TOG (DECREASE)

This stitch will be used to decrease across two stitches.

1: YO, insert hook in next st. YO, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook)
2: YO, pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook)
3: YO, insert hook behind DC from 2 rounds below, YO, pull up a loop (4 loops on hook)
4: YO, pull through 2 loops. (3 loops on hook)
5: YO, pull through 3 loops.
Decrease complete.

Grice Mountain Beanie Pattern Instructions

TEEN/ADULT

FOR THE BRIM

CH 6.

Row 1: Working in back loop only, SC in 2nd CH from hook and each CH st across. (5 sts)

Row 2: CH 1, turn. Working in BLO, SC in each st across. (5 sts)

Row 3 – 36: Repeat row 2.

Closing seam: Fold band so last row and first row meet.
CH1. Sl st across row catching front loop of foundation CH-sts to form brim. (5 sl sts)

Do not finish off.

Hat Foundation Round

Turn seam to inside and, working in rounds around the top of the brim band,
RND 1: CH 1, SC in each row-end st around. Join with SL ST to beginning SC. (36 sts)

HAT

RND 2: CH2 (counts as first DC), DC in each st around. Join with SLST to top of beg CH. (36 sts)

RND 3: CH1, turn. SC in each st around. Join with SLST to beg SC. (36 sts)

RND 4: CH2, turn. *FPDC in next st from 2 rounds below, DC in next st. Repeat from * around to last st. FPDC in st from 2 rounds below. Join with SLST to beg CH2. (36 sts)

RND 5: Repeat round 3.

RND 6: CH1, turn. FPDC in CH2-st from 2 rounds below, *DC in next st, FPDC in next st from 2 rounds below. Repeat from * around to last st. DC in last st. Join with SLST to beg FPDC. (36 sts)

RND 7: Repeat round 3.

RND 8: Repeat round 4.

RND 9: Repeat round 3.

RND 10: Repeat round 6.
