Materials:
(US size K) 6.50 mm crochet hook
2 colors of (size 4) worsted weight yarn (230 yards of MC, 70 yards of CC)
coordinating faux fur or handmade pom pom
stitch marker
scissors
tapestry needle for tucking ends
Gauge:
12 stitches X 15 rows = 4” square working in SC

CH: chain
SC: single crochet
SLST: slip stitch

- No matter your skill level, I always suggest that you read through the pattern from beginning to end before beginning your work just to be sure you don’t have any questions that might cause frustration in the midst of your project.
- Instructions are given for a Teen/Women’s Small (additional sizes in parentheses)
- The entire project is worked in SC.
START WITH THE DOUBLE BRIM
With 6.50 mm (K) hook and MC and CH 57 (60, 63, 66) loosely. Join with a SLST to beginning
SC.
RND 1: CH1, SC into same ST as beginning CH1 and each CH around. Do not join, but work in continuous rounds throughout. Mark the last stitch with a stitch marker and move it with each row. 57 (60, 63, 66) STS
RND 2: SC in first ST and each ST around. 57 (60, 63, 66) STS
RNDS 3 – 29: repeat round 2
RND 30: With the right side of hat facing you, fold the bottom half of the brim into the top half so the unworked loops of beginning chain match up with the loops of row 29. Stitch the brim closed by working a SC in each ST around, matching round 29 with unworked loops of foundation chain stitches. Now, your double brim is
made. 57 (60, 63, 66) STS
RND 31: Continuing with MC, SC in first ST and each ST around. 57 (60, 63, 66) STS
RNDS 32 – 34: repeat round 31
Switch to CC
RND 35: With CC, SC in the first ST and each ST around. 57 (60, 63, 66) STS
RNDS 36 – 49: repeat round 35
RND 50: *SC in each of next 4 STS, decrease SC across the next 2 STS, repeat from * to * around to stitch marker.(SC in any remaining stitches if there are 5 or fewer stitches remaining).
RND 51: *SC in each of next 3 STS, decrease SC across the next 2 STS, repeat
from * to * around to stitch marker. (SC in any remaining stitches if there are 4 or fewer stitches remaining).
RND 52: * SC in each of next 2 STS, decrease SC across the next 2 STS,* repeat
from * to * around to stitch marker. (SC in any remaining stitches if there are fewer than 3 stitches remaining).
RND 53: *SC in the next ST, decrease SC across the next 2 STS, repeat from * to * around to stitch marker. (SC in any remaining stitches if there are fewer than 2 stitches remaining).
RND 54: *Decrease SC across the next 2 STS, repeat from * to * around to stitch marker. (SC in any remaining stitch).
Finish off. Use the tail to stitch the hole closed and add pom pom.
