There’s something about the first hint of fall that makes me want to pull out yarn in shades of mustard, rust and deep green. Even before the leaves begin to change, those warm harvest colors make our home feel a little cozier and signal that a slower, more creative season is on its way.
The Golden Harvest Pennant began as a simple crochet motif that could add a handmade autumn touch almost anywhere. One pennant is lovely on its own, but once I made a few in coordinating colors, I knew they belonged together as a fall garland—and the Golden Harvest collection began to take shape.

Yarn over, insert hook into indicated stitch, *yarn over and pull up a loop; repeat from * 2 times, working in same stitch. You will have 7 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 7 loops.

Golden Harvest Pennant Pattern Instructions
START WITH A Magic Circle or CH-3 loop –
RND 1: Into loop work, 2 sc, 2 hdc, 3 dc, 2 hdc, sc. Join to beg sc. (10 sts)
RND 2: CH 1. 3hdcCl in 1st st, (ch 2, 3hdcCl in next st) 2 times, ch 2, 3dcCl, ch 3, 4dcCl, ch 3, 4tcCl, ch 3, 4dcCl, ch 3, 3dcCl, (ch 2, 3hdcCl in next st) 2 times, ch 2. Join to beg st. (10 clusters, 10 ch-sp)
RND 3: CH 1. sc in 1st st, (2 sc in ch-sp, sc in next st) 4 times, 3 sc in ch-sp, (sc, ch, sc) in center of 4tcCl, 3 sc in ch-sp, (sc in next st, 2 sc in ch-sp) 4 times. Join to beg st. (33 sts, 1 ch-sp)
RND 4: CH 1. Working around the perimeter, 2 sc, hdc, 2dc in next st, ch, 2dc in next st, hdc, (sc, sc, 2sc) 2 times, 5 sc, (sc, ch, sc) in ch-sp, 5 sc, (2sc, sc, sc) 2 times, hdc, 2dc in next st, ch, 2dc in next st, hdc, sc. Join to beg st. (42 sts, 3 ch-sp)
Finish off.
For best results, block.
FOR TASSELS
Make (2) 3″ tassels
Cut 2 12″ lengths of yarn. Lay one length across top of your 3″ form (cardboard works here). Starting at the bottom, wrap yarn around the form 12 times and clip yarn at the bottom. Tightly tie string at the top of the tassel to create ties.
Remove loops from form and cut open at center-bottom.
Lay tassel flat, use second length of yarn to secure tassel 1/2″ below the top.
Trim bottom of tassel even. Thread bead to top of tassel.
Tie the two strands of yarn together 4 times to create a cord and secure the bead.
FOR GARLAND
Arrange pennants in the order you’d like them display on the garland, right to left. Cut a length of cream yarn, 9 yards long.
Ch 7, slst to beg ch to create a loop, ch 8.
*In the back loop only, slst across top of pennant. Ch 7, remove hook from loop. Widen the loop and thread through the eye of a large yarn needle.
(Add bead)Pull loop through bead hole. Position bead as desired. Remove needle, pull remaining length of yarn through the bead hole, and return hook to loop.
Repeat from * 4 times.
In back loop only, slst across top of last pennant.
Ch 15, slst 7th st from hook. Finish off.
Attach tassels to each side of the cord. Tuck all ends.
