Hanging Teardrop Basket: Free Crochet Pattern
It’s another craft fair favorite – a quick and easy project that your customers will love. It’s a tiny hanging teardrop basket to hold your favorite air plant, trinkets, or…whatever! I love to make them to match our Christmas tree and use them as little ornament/gift holders!

- 30 yards Super Bulky Yarn
- I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick
- 6.60 mm (K) Crochet Hook
- Scissors

- hdc2tog – half-double crochet decrease

- Finished Measurements: 4” wide x 4.5” tall (not including the hanging loop)
Aeryn Hanging Teardrop Basket Pattern
Rnd 1: Work 8 SC into a magic circle and pull the circle tight (or CH3, join to create a loop and work 8 SC into the center of the circle), join with a SLST to beginning SC. (8 sts)
Rnd 2: CH1, work 2 SC into the same stitch as beginning CH1, 2 SC in each stitch around, join with SLST to beginning SC. (16 sts)
Rnd 3: CH1, work 2 SC into the same stitch as beginning CH1, SC in the next stitch, *2 SC in next st, SC in next st*, repeat from * to * 6 more times, join with SLST to beginning SC. (24 sts)
Rnd 4: CH1, work 2 SC into the same stitch as beginning CH1, SC in each of the next 2 sts, *2 SC in the next st, SC in each of the next 2 sts,* repeat from * to * 6 more times. (32 sts)
Rnd 5: (decrease round) CH1, SC in the same st as beginning CH1, SC in each of the next 6 sts, HDC in the next stitch, (HDC2TOG across the next 2 sts) 8 times, HDC in the next st, SC in each of the next 7 sts, join with a SLST to beginning SC. (24 sts)
Rnd 6: CH1, SC in the same st as beginning CH1, SC in the next 4 sts, HDC in the next st, (HDC2TOG across the next 2 sts) 6 times, HDC in the next st, SC in each of the next 5 sts. Join with a SLST to beginning SC. (18 sts)
Rnd 7: CH1, SC in the same st as beginning ch-1, SC in each stitch around. CH 12. Join with a SLST to beginning SC. (30 sts)
Round 8: SLST into the first stitch and each SC stitch around the basket, SC 12 into the loop created by the ch-12 space. Join with a SLST to the final stitch of the basket.
Finish off leaving the tail approximately 36″ long.
Wind the tail around the base of the loop and secure with a knot in the back.
Tuck ends.
Embellish however you’d like!
Make a Larger Hanging Sack Basket
To make the larger (5″ x 6.5″) basket. Follow the instructions as given while using two strands of super bulky (size 6) yarn and a 9.00 mm (M/N) crochet hook.
