Introducing the Kaydence Ponytail Hat Crochet Pattern!

Whether you’re a houndstooth fan, a University of Alabama alum, or simply a lover of classic design, this checked bun hat is the perfect project for you (or your friends).

This sweet bun beanie was specially designed for my dear friend who LOVES her houndstooth…and her messy mom bun.

Made of super chunky yarn (I used Lion Brand Hometown USA) and a size 10 mm hook (find one here), you can make this hat in less than an hour and fits teens through Women’s medium. The instructions also include ideas for variations and how to make it a closed top hat.

My testers remarked that it was so much easier to make than it looks!

    1. A black covered hair tie is a regular hair tie that you would buy at the grocery store but it isn’t just elastic. It is covered with fabric, of sorts, to keep it from getting tangled in the hair. They’re just sturdier than regular elastics.

  2. Hi there I love your patterns and was wondering on this pattern (and the beehive beanie) if you could use a less bulky yarn? Like a 5 weight. Thank you.

    1. Sure. You can use a weight 5 yarn. You would just need to work out some adjustments and add stitches to each round and then add a few rounds to get the height to where you want it. Would love to see what you come up with!
