Introducing the Peppermint Twist Infinity Scarf
Every December, I find myself reaching for something handmade to bring a little extra magic to my winter outfits—and this scarf does just that.
Inspired by the classic swirled candies, the Peppermint Twist Infinity Scarf was designed to pair perfectly with the Peppermint Twist Beanie.
It’s the kind of project that sparks joy from the first stitch—simple, satisfying, and wonderfully nostalgic.
I can almost hear the crackle of the fireplace and smell the cocoa as I work those red-and-white stripes that instantly transport me to holiday memories.

- Lion Brand Hometown USA, super bulky weight #6 yarn. (100% acrylic, 81 yds/74 m per 5 oz/142 g skein)
- 1.5 skeins New York White
- 1.25 skeins Cincinnati Red
- 9.00 mm (M/N) Crochet Hook
- Scissors
- Sewing needle
- Measuring Tape

Pattern Notes (read these)
- Skill Level: Advanced Beginner
- US Terminology
- Sts worked in BLO throughout.
- Beg HDC will be always be worked as a CHDC (instructions to follow). This replaces the customary CH2 when beginning a HDC round.
- To make stripes, you will alternate colors every two rows.
- Construction: The pattern is worked corner to corner in rows and stitched together.
Special Stitches
CHAINLESS HALF-DOUBLE CROCHET (CHDC)
The chainless half-double crochet (CHDC) is used to begin every new HDC row. When a beginning stitch is indicated as “2HDC in the first st” it will actually be a CHDC, HDC in the first st.
So, just remember that you’re always starting a row of the hat portion with the CHDC in place of the first HDC.
To complete the CHDC:
- Turn your work, SC in the first st,
- Insert your hook into the left-most post of the SC, pull up a loop,
- YO, pull through two loops.
CHAINLESS HALF-DOUBLE CROCHET TWO STITCHES TOGETHER (CHDC2TOG)
The chainless half-double crochet (CHDC2TOG) is used to begin a new row in place of working a CH2/HDC2TOG which would leave a hole.
To complete the CHDC2TOG:
- Turn your work, SC in the first st,
- Insert your hook into the left-most post of the SC, pull up a loop,
- Then, insert hook into next st, pull up a loop,
- YO, pull through 3 loops.
Peppermint Twist Infinity Scarf Pattern Instructions
With 9.00 mm hook and white (or color A), CH 2.
Work in the BLO here and throughout.
INCREASE ON BOTH SIDES
Row 1: 3 HDC in 2nd CH from hook. (3 HDC)
Row 2: Turn, 2 HDC in 1st st, HDC, 2 HDC in last st. (5 HDC)
Row 3: Turn, 2 HDC in 1st st, HDC in each of next 3 sts, 2 HDC in last st. (7 HDC)
Row 4: Turn, 2 HDC in 1st st, HDC in each st across to last st, 2 HDC in last st. (9 HDC)
Rows 5 – 9: Repeat row 4 until sides measure 6.5″ (17 HDC)
ONE SIDE INCREASES, ONE SIDE DECREASES
Row 10: Turn, 2 HDC in 1st st, HDC in each st across to the last 2, HDC2TOG (17 HDC)
Row 11: Turn, CHDC2TOG, HDC in each st across to last st, 2 HDC in last st. (17 HDC)
Rows 12 – 75 Repeat rows 10 and11 until the long edge measures approximately 60″
OTH SIDES DECREASE
Row 76: Turn, CHDC2TOG, HDC in each st to last 2 sts, HDC2TOG (15 HDC)
Rows 77 – 82: Repeat Row 76 until your last row with 3 sts remains.
Row 83: Turn, HDC3TOG.
FORM THE INFINITY SCARF
Fold with right sides facing, short sides together, and colors matching along the seam (as closely as possible).
SC or stitch the tube closed.
Finish off. Turn right side out.
ADD THE EDGE/COVER UP COLOR CHANGES
RND 1: With right side facing you, attach white yarn (or your preferred brim color), with a SLST to center back seam and evenly SC around the edge. I worked 3 SC into each color. So, 3 SC per 2 rows. Catch yarn from color changing in the stitches to hide them. Join with a SLST to beg SC.
Finish off.
Do the same process on the other side of the scarf edge.
Finish off. Tuck ends.
