Lil Pumpkin Bucket Hat Crochet Pattern Instructions
Every fall, my grandson and I pack up and head straight to our favorite pumpkin patch — the place that’s so much more than vines and gourds.
There are hayrides through a ‘haunted’ forest, a petting zoo with pigs, turkeys, goats and more, farm‑themed playgrounds to explore, and a story time nook hidden inside an antique barn.
Each year, we wander the rows in search of the biggest pumpkins, laughter echoing, leaves crunching under our feet.
This year, I was inspired to design the Lil Pumpkin Bucket Hat — a cozy, whimsical crochet pattern that carries the charm of those fall days.
Whether you’re headed to the patch, dressing for fall photos, or just want to sprinkle everyday life with a little seasonal magic, this hat is here to accompany you — stitch by stitch — through autumn adventures.

- 15 yards Cilantro
- 9.00 mm (M/N) Crochet Hook
- 6.00 mm (J) Crochet Hook

Lil Pumpkin Bucket Hat Crochet Pattern Instructions
Size 0 – 6 months
With 9.00 mm hook and super bulky yarn in color B…
RND 1: (working into a magic circle or 3CH closed loop) SC 4. Do not join. (4 SC)
RND 2: (working in BLO) SC in each st around. Do not join. (4 SC)
End color B.
Join color A to any RND 2 stitch.
RND 3: (working through both loops now) 2SC in next st and each st around. Join with SLST to beg SC. (8 SC)
RND 4: CH1, 2HDC in next st and each st around. Join with SLST to beg HDC. (16 HDC)
RND 5: CH1, *HDC in next st, 2HD in each of next 3 sts. Repeat from * 3 more times. Join with SLST to beg HDC. (28 HDC)
Diameter should measure 4.5″.
RND 6: CH1, HDC in each st around. Join with SLST to beg HDC. (28 HDC)
RNDs 7 – 10 (9 for straight brim): Repeat RND 6. (28 HDC)

Straight Brim
After completing the final row of the hat, continue to brim rounds:
BRIM RND 1: CH1, SC BLO in each st around. Slst to first SC to join.
BRIM RND 2: CH1, SC (both loops) in each st around. Slst to first SC to join.
Size 3 – 10 years only: Repeat BRIM RND 2.
Twisty Vine
Using Hook J 6.00mm and Cilantro.
CH12. 2SC in 2nd CH from hook and in next 10 sts. (22 SC)
Finish off.
Attach vine at base of stem.
Note: if desired, make shorter or longer by adjusting the starting chain.
