Toasty Shawl Free Crochet Pattern

I’m so excited to have Sarah returning once again for another 30 Days of Cozy. This year, she’s bringing us this gorgeous and drapey, triangle Toasty Shawl.

The written instructions include a chart for those who are more visually inclined. I know you’re going to love making and gifting this beauty!

The Toasty Shawl

Materials

Finished Measurements

Finished Toasty Shawl: 24 inches long and 67 inches wide.

Gauge

Using the 10 mm hook, 8 DC STS by 5 Rows = 4-inch by 4.5-inch square (Swatches are unblocked.)

Stitch Abbreviations

  • CH – Chain
  • ST(S) – Stitch(es)
  • DC – Double Crochet
  • CR DC – Cross Double Crochet: Skip 1 ST, DC in next ST, DC in skipped ST.
  • M – Marker
  • REP – Repeat

Pattern Notes

  • CH 1 and CH 3 both count as a ST.
  • This is a triangle shawl with increases on each end and in the middle and there will be increasing 6 STS per row.
  • There is a chart for a visual but follow along with the written pattern.

How to Make this Toasty Shawl

Row 1: Make a magic loop. CH 3, 6 DC in magic loop, turn. (7 STS), Place M on 4th ST.

Alternative Start: CH 4, 6 DC in 4th CH from hook, turn. (7 STS), Place M on 4th ST.

Row 2: CH 3, 2 DC in first ST, 1 CR DC, 3 DC in M, move M up to 2nd DC ST, 1 CR DC, 3 DC in last ST, turn. (13 STS).

Row 3: CH 3, 2 DC in first ST, 1 CR DC, 1 DC, 1 CR DC, 3 DC in M, move M up to 2nd DC ST, 1 CR DC, 1 DC, 1 CR DC, 3 DC in last ST, turn. (19 STS).

Row 4: CH 3, 2 DC in first ST, 1 CR DC, *1 DC, 1 CR DC, REP from * until M, 3 DC in M, move M up to 2nd DC ST, *1 DC, 1 CR DC, REP from * until 1 ST left, 3 DC in last ST, turn. (25 STS).

Row 5: CH 3, 2 DC in first ST, 1 CR DC, *1 DC, 1 CR DC, REP from * until M, 3 DC in M, move M up to 2nd DC ST, *1 DC, 1 CR DC, REP from * until 1 ST left, 3 DC in last ST, turn. (31 STS).

Rows 6 – 18: REP Row 5, continuing to increase at the beginning, middle, and end.
You will end with 109 STS.

You will end with 133 STS on Row 22.

Rows 25 – 26:  CH 3, 2 DC in first ST, 1 CR DC, *1 DC, 1 CR DC, REP from * until M, 3 DC in M, move M up to 2nd DC ST, *1 DC, 1 CR DC, REP from * until 1 ST left, 3 DC in last ST, turn.
You will end with 157 STS on Row 22.

Fasten off with a 5-inch tail for weaving in and weave in all ends.
