How to an Adult Small McKenna Beanie
With 9.00 mm hook
Make the Brim
With brim with color M, CH 6
ROW 1:(working in the back loop only) SC in 2nd CH from hook and each CH across. 5 sts
ROW 2: (working in the back loop only) CH1, turn, SC in each ST across. 5 sts
ROW 3 – 34: (working through the back loop only) Repeat ROW 2. 5 sts
Seam
Fold the band inhalf, being careful not to twist and SLST closed, matching STS from ROW 1 and ROW 34. This forms the brim.
Turn the seam to the inside and turn brim 90 degrees so you’ll be working the next round around the edge of the brim.
RND 1: Working SCs and working evenly around the brim, make 36 SCs. Join with a SLST to beg SC. 36 sts
RND 2: CH2, [DC, CH1, 2DC] in the same st as beginning CH-2, SK next 2 sts, DC in next st, SK next 2 sts, *[2DC, CH1, 2DC] in next st, SK next 2 sts, DC in next st, SK next 2 sts* repeat from * to * around. Join with SLST to top of the beginning CH-2. 6 shells
RND 3: SLST into the first CH-1 space of rnd 1 (in the middle of the first shell created). CH2, [DC, CH1, 2DC] in the same ch space, SK next 2 sts, DC in the next st (this is the first individual dc from the rnd 1 – do you see how you are stacking the pattern on top of itself – shell above shell, individual DC above individual DC), SK next 2 sts, *[2DC, CH2, 2DC] in next st, SK next 2 sts, DC in next st, SK next 2 sts* repeat from * to * around. SLST to top of beg CH-2. 6 shells
Rnds 4 – 7: Repeat Rnd 3.
Last Round: CH1, SC in each st around. Join with SLST to beginning CH. 36 sts
Fasten off leaving a long tail.
Stitch a running basting stitch around the inside of the hat at the top edge.
Pull the tails tight to cinch the top closed. Tie off, clip and tuck ends.
Attach pom pom (optional).
