It’s Day 14 of our 30 Days of Cozy and today we have a design that I’m really excited about. It’s the Ripple Blanket Wrap crochet pattern from Brianna of Hook ‘n Stein and I just know you’re going to love it!

Let’s get to this one! This is what Brianna has to say: I designed the pattern with the crochet beginner in mind. Garments are intimidating and I wanted a way to ease people into making wearables. This piece is designed in two separate panels then assembled with one seam for endless wearing. Dressed up or down the Ripple Blanket Wrap can bring coziness to every moment.

Materials

6 mm crochet hook
2 colors of worsted weight yarn:
- Color A approx. 800 yards
- Color B approx. 500 yards
Yarn needle
Scissors
Stitch markers

Stitches Used

Ch – Chain
St – Stitch
Blo – Back loop only
Hdc – Half double crochet
Hdc inc – Half double crochet increase: two hdc in the same st
Hdc dec – Half double crochet decrease: one hdc worked over two sts – *YO, insert hook into st, YO, draw up a loop,* repeat *-* in next st, Yo draw up a loop, pull through all 5 loops on hook
Tc – Triple crochet
Tc inc – two tc in the same st
Tc dec – one tc worked over two sts – *YO twice, insert hook into st, YO, draw up a loop, YO draw through two loops, YO draw through two loops.* Two loops remain on hook, repeat *-* in next st, YO draw through all 3 loops on hook
X – repeat indicated amount of times
Fo – Fasten off

Size(s): One Size Fits All
Measurement(s): The final measures of one panel is 18.5” wide x 58” long
No matter your skill level, I always suggest that you read through the pattern from beginning to end before beginning your work just to be sure you don’t have any questions that might cause frustration in the midst of your project.
The final stitch pattern will resemble a ‘ripple’
Width of Ruana can easily be adjusted by altering the beginning ch. Beginning ch is a multiple of 12+2.
Turning ch does count as a st. – it may be helpful to mark end of rows with a stitch marker
You will always start and end with two sts in the same st
Some of these rows are worked in the back loop only (blo)

Gauge Swatch

Gauge: 4” x 4” is approximately 12 sts by 5 rows.
The 5 rows will consist of 3 rows of hdc and 2 rows of tc

To make gauge swatch:

Ch 24

Row 1: Hdc in blo of the 3rd ch from the hook (counts as 2 hdc), *hdc in the blo of the next 3 sts, hdc dec blo x 2, hdc blo in the next 3 sts, hdc inc blo in the next 2 sts,* repeat *-* across ending with 2 hdc blo in the last st. Ch 3, turn. (22 hdc)

Row 2: TC in the same st (2 tc in the first st), *tc in the next 3 sts, tc dec x 2, tc in the next 3 sts, tc inc in the next 2 sts,* repeat *-* across ending with 2 tc in the last st. Ch 2, turn. (22 tc)

Row 3: Hdc blo in the same st (2 hdc in the first st), *hdc in the blo of the next 3 sts, hdc dec blo x 2, hdc blo in the next 3 sts, hdc inc blo in the next 2 sts,* repeat *-* across ending with 2 hdc blo in the last st. Ch 3, turn. (22 hdc)

FO, weave in ends and make the second panel.

Assembly

Ensuring right sides are facing the same direction, line your panels up next to each other, lining your stripes up.

How you choose to assemble your Ruana is up to you, the one shown is whip stitched. Starting at the bottom of the panels seam your panels together about halfway (as shown with an arrow in the picture). Fasten off, sew in loose ends and enjoy!
